Teaching Bases
Six years of planning was utilised to research and devise
the best construction and layout for the Oak Heights school
building. Professional building technicians and advisors
played their part in compiling the best environment for
both children and teachers to be in. The premises have
unique air flow technology that allows effective circulation,
as well as effective discharge of stale air. Lighting
is designed to eliminate shadows, which create perfect
visibility, thus reducing the risk of eyestrain. Heating
(during Winter) and cooling (during Summer) is evenly
distributed to create balanced temperature throughout
the building at all times. The layout of each class room
is carefully designed so that each teacher can see all
their students, as well as what each child is writing
- thus inviting the obvious benefit of correcting academic
problems as they arise. Desks are designed to accommodate
A4 paper and a textbook.
The use of a playground is redundant at Oak Heights, as
the daily program incorporates productive use of break-times
- in the form of daily yoga and aerobics. The healthy
body - healthy mind ethos is taken very seriously and
consideration was given to the average sports facilities
available at most schools. It was key to Oak Heights that
only the best facilities were at hand. Off site, the school
has indoor and outdoor swimming pools and tennis courts,
in addition to numerous other sports facilities, such
as basketball and badminton courts. Thus the school has
aimed to gain the best facilities in all departments.
The main building specialises in serving its purpose as
a disciplined teaching/learning ground, with all other
aspects of education taking place in their specialised
grounds. Overall we believe we have created the perfect
environment for a child to grow and develop towards an
elitist status.
